It's the Little Things: Hair Cuts

It's Friday, this week, it's pay-day and well, the weekend! Yahoo!! however, right now it's snowing and blowing outside and I have an event I want to go to tonight. Hopefully those plow trucks are working hard!

SUPER BOWL RECAP!!!!

Sunday was once again SUPER BOWL!!! Wow how a year just flies by. This year was a bit more low-key than others, just family, however we had a Super Bowl FIRST! we Skyped Erin in from Iowa.

The meal-rather snacks I should say. Complete with table-clothe.

Erin won the Trophy last year-so she handed it off to my Mum who won this year. We always take a photo of past winners.

Oh yeah, I got my hair-cut hahaha, I was waiting for another big reveal, but this will have to do for now.

It is Tuesday again! Michigan winter is in full-swing, so that means getting to projects that keep one inside and toasty warm.

So my niece Cali will be 4 this year! WOW! Time flies, so I saw this cute Camilla sweater for toddlers and thought of her.

I know it's kinda cheating, but since I don't own my own wheel just a spindle, I thought of purchasing already spun fibers to experiment with dyeing.

Because last night I was invited to par-take in some yarn dyeing. Kat Eldred was kind enough to test out my curiosity for this art. It was a lot of fun!

Wedding Part 2

Okay, I know it's been awhile for the second part of the wedding photo's but your waiting has paid off.

My Mum helped me get ready over at my in-laws house.

Finished Hats

I really want to get better at taking photo's of my finished works. So here are two of them that I snapped this morning.

I got some lovely yarn for Christmas from my Mum and Austin. The Fibre Company's Canopy Fingering.
I then used the yarn to create my first fair isle project En Blekksprut
This was not as hard as everyone may think it is. I really enjoyed it! Now I need to make mittens and a scarf to all match.

My second I have to say I was a bit slow to post. I made this hat two days before Christmas! WOW! It knits up super fast! I used some lovely Madelinetosh Worsted yarn that I got when Tom and I were in Portland. I enjoyed knitting with this yarn, wished I could have bought more.
Anyways, the hat was created by such an amazing designer! Jill Zielinski! Check out her hat the Smocked Slouch here
It's a great hat for a last minute knit!

Tickle Me Tuesday

WOW, today is now Tuesday already, hopefully this week will go by a lot faster than last week. So we shall be linking up again with Sarah over at Yes, Teacher! for Tickle Me Tuesday

Okay, so I am getting into some serious spinning with my drop-spindle. I am taking a wheel spinning class this weekend. Could be trouble cause those wheels cost low amount- $500! WOW!

But look at this roving fiber! Such pretty stuff. Yarn Love!

IF YOU HAVE NOT! seen this, you MUST! Downton Abbey is AMAZING! Now in the second season and I cannot wait for Sunday to come around. This show is just wonderful, I am engrossed in every single character. Simple wonderful. Must watch!

So it's Wednesday again, this week is just dragging, feels like it should be Thursday. And today is also the last day of our lovely winter weather. . . 45 degrees again but tomorrow brings snow and lots of it. Oh well, I do live in Northern Michigan, and we have had it mild thus far.

You Spin ME!

Haha, so this weekend, I learned how to spin!!! YAHOO!! I am now hooked (no pun intended.)

I used Alpaca fibers. . . from a cute alpaca named Simmon. I am still getting the hang of spinning, but here is my result:

It's small, maybe a baby hat size. . . or small mittens, but I love it. I am so proud of my new step into the vast world of knitting. I bought more unwoven yarn from a local Wonder-Knitter/Spinner/Dyer. Whyknotyarn by Kathryn Eldred. Pictures to come as I spin it up!! I want a spinning wheel now, but the price-tag is a little scary. . . maybe Birthday-Anniversary-Christmas combo hahaha.

I really wanted a drop spindle kit for Christmas. My Mum got me this with the face of the Alpaca on the front. Simmon is super cute!

2011 Year in Review. . . sorry late

2011 was filled with expereinces. Both good and bad, I wouldn't trade this year for the world! 2012 has hit us with a good amount of snow, but we were due anyways. Tom and both were off from work last week, so sorry I didn't blog (could you blame me?) We enjoyed relaxing knitting, and video gaming! It was hard to come back to work, but it was a good time off.

So lets recap before we set our goals!

The year started off well with Super Bowl Partys galore!

February saw the opening of my craft shop on etsy!

Latest item is the Morse Code Necklace! LOVE THEM!

I also went from Blonde to Brunette in March! WOW what a change.

April we painted Easter Eggs. So much fun!

However. we got blasted with a ton of snow in late April.

May-June saw me preparing for my first Craft Show. I plan to do it again this year!

July was a big month. First my craft show!

Then we celebrated my 26th birthday with a wine tasting tour.

My long-time friend (5th grade here) Erin got married in August. I was so happy to be her maid of honor.

September was our most epic month. Tom turned 25 and we went hiking.

Oh yeah, on September 24, 2011 I married the man of my dreams.

It was such a fun and crazy day, it looks like a blur to me. I love our goofy photos!

We honeymooned in Portland (which we love and I keep thinking about all the time!!!)

The coast was amazing!

And went to Seattle! Loved this city as well!!!

October saw a lot of changes for the Haug Family. We chopped our hair, donated it for a good cause! Tom had over 12 inches!!!! I had around 8 inches. It was great! Plus the weather was LOVELY! I also sought a new adventure in the job market. After my June job announcement, October saw me leaning towards a different path. I quit and returned to where I worked before with addition to going back to writing. I love being back at a News Paper. It was a hard choice for me, but with the strength and love of my husband and my family I made the right choice.

November saw me return to knitting like no other!!

We also welcomed a new baby into our family. Odin is adjusting very nicely! He's lost a little bit of weight and is just the ball of orange fluffy that we love!

We spent our second Christmas in our house, and our first as husband and wife.

It was certainly a great year!

So goals for 2012.

1. Learn how to spin yarn

2. Learn how to dye yarn

Here we are, 5 days before Christmas, and I am still trying to get holiday knits done and wrapped. . . will she make it? I have confidence in myself. . . the question is. . . do my fingers?

Cold Hands Warm Hearts Swap

This is my second year participating in Cold Hands Warm Hearts! I just couldn't wait for it to start this year I was so excited!

It was something to look forward to during a busy season!

So here goes:

Whitney was my swap partner this year. It was great getting to know her through our email conversations. She got it right on the noise! :)

I am a true sucker for a giant bar of DARK CHOCOLATE! (It has been consumed happily in my stomach now)

Chap Stick is a must for Northern Living. . . I best hide it from the hubby, he tends to steal my chap stick.

I LOVE! These mittens! I am a knit girl through and through---obviously since I knit! Haha. I love the fact that I can switch to mittens and the thumb has a flap for my touch-phone!

I was getting ready for work this morning, Tom was kind enough to take my picture! Yes, that is a Seattle's Best Coffee mug, one of my favs cause it shows a scene of Seattle on it! Got this mug YEARS ago.

Shawls and Cowls

This Holiday Season, I haven't been knitting nearly as many gifts as I was last year. So this year, I feel a bit lost. However, that lost-ness is gone and filled with challenging knits. However, I have been eyeing a few cowls (which I love) and a shawl. I've never really knitted a shawl, so I figured a smaller easy one should do the trick!

Even with our new baby home and getting a lot of love and attention, one boy continues to keep my attention.

He is the prince after-all.

He loves laying next to the heat vents, to gain the warmth.

This cutie will always be my little boy. I mean come on, look at that face!! This is his, Mommy pet my tummy cause I wanna play-mode.

He continues to follow me into the bathroom every morning, he loves the shower running. If I am knitting on the couch (which is almost every night now) he jumps up and lays in my lap. My two weeks that I spent at home back in early November, he never left my side. Though, Odin is getting a lot of love and attention, Hamlet you will always have my heart!

Happy Tuesday Everyone! Made it past Monday and now we are getting into the thick of the week!
A lot has gone on in the past two weeks at the Haug house! Good changes I should say. So I am gonna link up with Sarah over at Yes, Teacher for Tickle Me Tuesday!

I have yet to knit a cozy cowl for myself this year. Hmmm, perhaps this one is in my future! I've been working on getting holiday knits out so that this year I am not rushing during Christmas Eve, like I was last year. Here's hoping! haha.

This year Tom and I finally made a Gingerbread House! I think it's cute, a little messy, but hey does it ever turn out like it does on the box??

And last but certainly not least! Our new addition to our kitty family. He's HUGE!!!! 19lbs! and only a year and a half! WOW!!! We were certainly surprised when we meet him. His name is Odin (yeah, like the Norse God) fitting for our strange brewed of cat names, Nanaki and Hamlet. . . now Odin. He's been with us for just over a week now and he is getting more and more used to the house. The other boys don't mind him as much anymore, and I can see playing in the future. He's a big fan of this chair in the living room. And he purrs like a motor!! He loves to be held, which I find is humorous considering his LARGE size. Tom is over the moon about him and so am I. Of course our other two boys get plenty of love during this adjustment period.

So that's my Tuesday!!! :)

So, if any of you have visited the blog recently, you will have noticed that it looks A LOT different. Well that is thanks to my dear friend and talented computer/photographer Sara check out her stuff, it's amazing.

As for regular posting, I will getting back to it very soon here! It has taken some time to really find a meaning to everything lately. I will tell you that I have taken a new route in life. New jobs new journey's. I am very happy in my life now, and I will be sharing that with everyone very soon. I have been knitting up a storm! And will devote to more post involving what I've been working on.

For all of those knitters out there, wouldn't it be fun to swap your favorite skein with someone? I think so. It's a great way to get to know someone and to get new fiber ideas.

Wedding Part One

The Day Before

We held our wedding at a local place here in Northern Michigan. It was a lodge covered in hardwood and a lovely pavilion down by a small lake. It was perfect for us. We were hoping to have our ceremony outside and the reception inside. It took us a while to find this place, but when we did we knew it was perfect.

I had hand painted each bird house which had the table numbers written on them. A little bird sitting on each was Tom's idea. Nice touch I think.

We hung paper lanterns which Jenny (sister-in-law now :) and her husband Jon helped us put them up. It would have taken forever if it weren't for them.

I really want to incorporate mason jars in the wedding. So Tom came up with the idea of putting candles in them. Rocks as the bottom mini pumpkins surrounding the candle and moss and leaves around them. Then we got these pine cones from Tom's Mom. It was great!

Tom's Mom also found these amazing lantern plants. They were perfect!!

Hair-Raising Changes!

Shortly after Tom and I got back from our honeymoon we decided we wanted to do something drastic.

We both had more than enough hair so we donated it! We both love our new hair cuts! So much faster getting ready in the morning! It would take forever to blow dry my hair!

Yarn out West

So, probably not everyone cares about yarn, however, this will be a post about my spoils from out west! So Portland is MECCA!! for yarn! It was such a great place! I loved each shop I dragged Tom to. Hahaha, poor guy. . . he was a good sport about it though.

These two are from Seattle actually. Blue Sky Alpaca, which is one of my favorites to use. Really soft baby alpaca yarn in sport weight. I knitted up a pair of fingerless gloves with this! (pic will be up soon!)

Now on to Portland. Honestly, I wish I could have spent more time at Knit Purl! It was a really nice shop downtown Portland, but we had dinner reservations :)

If I had to pick my favorite, it would have to be Happy Knits! This places was really pretty inside! It was hard to pick my yarn out at this place. But I also snagged this cute project bag :) Tom also picked out some yarn for a hat he saw in the store (photo will come soon!) The multi color is Malabrigo Worsted, (Tom's choice) The red is Madeline Tosh Worsted.

I also really like Yarn Garden! Such pretty yarn there! Why is it so hard to choose yarn? Oh right, cause I'm not rich hahaha. Plus, out suitcase could only hold so much. Tom also picked out some yarn! I think it was fun for him to choose some too!

Heading Home

This was the car that took us all over the place! It was a Toyota Corolla. Great little car!

We ate at the French Meadow on our way back in the airport. Really good food there.

Anyone who has been the Minneapolis Airport knows this Snoopy Statue :)

Final Day: Science Museum, Space Needle, Yummy Burgers and Jazz Club

So our final day lead us to the Science Museum. It was pretty cool, really geared towards kids, but it was still really fun.

Honestly, the butterfly house was the best part of the science museum. I really enjoyed them flying around us.

Day 5: Pike's Market, Harbor Tour, One Step Program and Crab Pot

Day Five found us in our first full day in Seattle. Of course we made the trip to Pike's Place Market!

This place was amazing! Wish we had something like this at home.

Made it to the first Starbucks Store!!!

This places was really cool! Probably the best Starbucks Latte I have ever had. Now, sorry to those loyal Starbucks fans out there. I have never been a HUGE fan or their coffee, but this place was different. . . maybe it was my cold, or the fact it was my first pumpkin spice latte of the season, but it was much better.

No glitz, no glam!

It was WARM!!! and Sunny!! So had to take a pic next to the giant piggy bank :)

Tom and I headed over to the Seattle Aquarium. This places was really cool. I've never been to one, and it was nice to check this place out. Diver feeding salmon.

We took a harbor tour, so glad we did because it was such a great day to do it.

Heading down. Okay, so the deal was Seattle was originally built at sea-level. Not the brightest idea. So in 1880's Seattle had a fire that burnt down most of the main part of the city. Everyone agreed that the city level should be raised. Well, the people who were going to build this wouldn't start for 8-9 months. Well the business's didn't like that because they weren't going to make any money. So they rebuilt, and then the city caught up to rebuilding the street. Only problem, the streets were 10 feet above the shops. Kid you not. Eventually, things were sorted out. But this tour was really cool.

Remember those tiles on the sidewalk, yeah their actually sky-lights for underground. Worked pretty well.

We are now at the Crab Pot. YUMMY!! We got the boil, which came with dungeness crab and snow crab. It was soo wonderful!

My second cousin Kim and her fiance Curt. They live just outside of Seattle, so it was great to get together with them. Pretty cool, they both work at Boeing!

Day 4: The Coast, Rainforest, EDWARD, and Seattle at Night

On Wednesday we left for the coast and headed towards Hoh Rainforest. It was such a beautiful drive all the way.

The coast, the Pacific ocean was amazing, we had blue sky all day! What luck.

A tree growing on top of another tree, we learned this was called a nurse tree. We would see a lot of them in the rainforest.

Giant Spruce Tree was what this one was labeled. A nice couple took our photo.

This was looking up the tree. Pretty big!

In the rainforest, trees were covered in this amazing moss.

The trees were just giant in this place!

I just looked like we had gone back 65 million years to the age of the dinosaurs! Really cool here.

This tree had grown around in an arch shape, pretty cool!

This giant tree was lined along the path, Tom just felt he had to climb it and walk along.

We then left the rainforest, and headed to Port Angeles towards Seattle!

As any Twilight fan must do, stop at the restaurant that Bella and Edward ate at IN THE BOOK! Not the movie!

Actually, this place had some really AWESOME Italian food. We splurged too, bought a bottle of wine! Local Washington wine, pretty good, not as sweet though as Michigan :)

Day Three: Portland Gardens and DONUTS!

Okay, so our last day in Portland was filled with typical attractions. First, was Powell's Book Store. This place was epic! FOUR floors, and over a million titles! A place that is a must for visiting! I snag a sweet mug here :)

The outside of the store had this column of books. Pretty sweet! Can I have this for my house?

Had to sample the bookstores cafe, yummy latte!

As we were leaving, I notice one of the titles for the books on the pillar. HAMLET!!! Yes, I instantly thought of my boy and missed him. (He is laying right next to me as I type, which since he is chubby, is not making typing easy. . . )

After Powell's we headed to the Chinese Gardens. Kind-of a strange location, with it being right in the city, but it was certainly pretty.

I loved the willow in these shots.

Bonsai were really cool.

The walkways were really cool! All of these little stones placed next to each other.

These tiles are called "Bat" tiles because they well, look like bats.

Using my new camera, I got some sweet panorama shots!

This was the tea house, which we went in. The smell was great, but was a bit out of price range, so we decided to buy a tin of tea, which cost less then to buy a cup. . . strange I know.

Next we ventured to a must go to place if you are ever in Portland.

VooDoo Donut. Good things come in pink boxes! So true, though we only got two donuts.

The inside was awesome!

And yes, the magic was in the hole!! haha, they had underwear that said that on it. . . tempted, but not at 20bucks!

I got the special voodoo doll donut, filled with raspberry filling! Yes that is a pretzel stick that you stick your doll with!

WHAT! is that bacon on a DONUT!!! haha, yes it is the maple bacon donut that Tom ordered. BEST EVER!!! Trust me, the smokey bacon flavor and the sweet maple was AWESOME!!!

Epic first bites! SOO GOOD. . . I want one now!

After getting out donut fill, we headed to the Portland Art Museum. Pretty cool, though not many photos. I was getting pretty tired by this point, and we still had another stop to make.

The Native American suite was pretty sweet!

However, I will never understand post modern art. . . we saw a giant black cube. . . WTF! Our 3 year-old niece can do better. . . So we promptly left for the Japanese Gardens.

This was outside of Portland just a ways, which made it a lot nicer than the Chinese Gardens.

I loved how the moss covered a lot of sculptors in this place.

We ate at Mother's Bistro, one of the best potato soups ever!!! Really nice to just relax, we got there before the rush. We then headed back to our hotel and did laundry, yes laundry, to save on space in our suitcase, we packed sparingly. We had to get ready for our next day's journey to the coast!!

Portland Day Two

Okay, so here we begin with our first full day in Portland which will be day two of our trip. No jet-lag, I think because we hardly got any sleep the night before, and I was feeling pretty crappy because of my cold. However, after my wonderful husband took such great care of me, buying me tea, soup, and a hot kettle to heat up the water in(hotel didn't have a microwave), I was starting to feel better. Still had a pretty sore throat, but on the mend. So we took it easy, and just decided to visit a few places around town.

Okay, for those of you who may not know, Tom and I are HUGE!! coffee fans, come on I used to be a barista! So, what better way to start our day then to head to a local coffee shop. Tom got an amazing caramel latte, I just wanted a good cup of joe'

If you are ever in the area, Portland or Seattle, STOP!!! at Stumptown!! It was amazing! Still is since we brought home some bags! haha. A great places to go!

Okay, so originally, I wanted to stop at Yarnia in Portland, BUT! when we walked up to the door the sign said closed Monday and Tuesday. . . totally didn't see that coming. . . Since we were leaving EARLY Wednesday for the coast, this shop would be missed. HOWEVER! as Tom will testify to this, we more than made up for it. Yarn Garden was out first stop. (More pics will follow of all my spoils!)

Fans of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives will remember this place! Pok Pok!!

I still look a little haggard in this photo, however, what I am drinking was really cool. Drinking Vinegar. YES! It was pomegranate flavor too and honestly it did have a hint of that vinegar taste to it, which I LOVE!!!

The wings were spicy and sweet, and the game-hen was awesome. So, again in the area, this places is a must!! It's small and tucked away, but aren't the best places usually that way?

We decided to take a tram after lunch. It is for the hospital in Portland, but it is open to the public.

We got some great views of the city this way.

This was step one, before the mighty Space Needle. I am deathly afraid of heights, but this tram was pretty easy honestly.

Another yarn stop, Happy Knits, I would say was my favorite yarn store on the trip. Wish I would have gotten more here, but I had to think about my carry on bag. . .

Day One: Landing

I will have Wedding Photo's up soon, but till then, here are some delights from our honeymoon!

We landed in Seattle around 10am-ish on Sunday. Tom and I both knew we were not in Michigan anymore.

These houses rested on the hill tops. Amazing.

Mountains were amazing.

We are entering the Columbia River Gorge, across this bridge is Oregon!

The gorge was absolutely amazing!

We went along the historic trail, unfortunately, I caught a cold the first day, and was feeling really poorly by the time we got to the really cool falls. So something to make sure we do next time!

This fall was amazing!

We parked right across from the falls, so therefore I decided to venture out for a photo.

Really wished we could have hiked this one, but oh well. . . Tom still got some great shots!

So ends day one! I will try to post day two tomorrow.

It's Friday!!!! YAHOO!!! It is also Labor Day weekend, which is much needed because we are THREE!!! weeks and counting from our wedding. . . Don't panic right? Tom's been calling around and we are just finishing with a bunch of last minute stuff. Yesterday we started to plan out trip, and yes there will be yarn shop stopping :) haha, though I wish we had more than a week, but that just means we'll make the best of it!

Now, my last WIP's for you, well one WIP, a pair of socks for Tom. I know it looks like a sleeve for a sweater, but, he likes the upper part of the sock longer. . . his socks his choice. They are really for his birthday which is next weekend, so he obviously knows about them.

Malabrigo Worsted is probably one of my favorite yarns to use. This will be my third time using it, and boy do I love it. It's hard to tell with the poor lighting that I had last night, but this is a cream-camel colored yarn. Really pretty.

Okay, so I don't have a ball winder. I have been dropping hints for one for awhile. But after visiting my LYS Wool and Honey, and Melissa the wonderful owner, rolled the yarn up for me, I am in LOVE!!!! I want to take all of my yarn stash to her to roll it hahaha, trust me if there weren't any wedding expenses going on and my man's bday, I would totally be plunking down some coin for one!

But I will patiently wait.

Oh my less than a month!!

Seriously sorry for the lack of blogging. This will probably continue well for another few weeks. . . sorry. . .

We have hit the "less than one month" mark for our wedding. I cannot believe that Thursday is the first day of September. . . tick-tock. . . we are down to the wire!! WOW! Pretty funny though, we are not completely stressed. . . hahaha YET!!!

No, honestly, I don't think we will get to that point. Pretty much everything is accounted for, we have ordered our guest book, just waiting on ties, shoes, and headbands :) Gifts for guests will be bought (we know what we are doing for them, just have to actually buy them hahaha) So now we want to focus on our trip. We are spending a week in Portland and Seattle. Recommendations?? We plan to take in a lot, but also, suggestions on Yarn Store are welcome! hahah poor Tom, but yeah me! HEY! If he is taking me up the Space Needle (which honestly I am not keen on because I have a HUGE!! fear of heights) then he can suffer in some yarn shops with me.

Okay, so sorry that I have been delayed in posting for most of this summer. It's been crazy. Maybe fall will be better??? (Cannot promise, but I sure can try haha)

But, it's time for another Tickle me Tuesday link-up with Sarah.

As you may know, the knitting bug has bitten me once again. Haha, I think this is funny that every year around this time I get the urge to get out my needs and knit. I made Melynda's Breckenridge Cowl last Christmas when Tom got me the lovely Blue Sky Alpaca yarn. I love this cowl and might just have to make another!

I just saw this lovely color over at Center Street Knits. It is Blue Sky Alpaca bulky yarn that is just sooo wonderful!

I noticed this blanket on Ravelry a few weeks ago and I just love it! Might have to knit one up for fall!

Friday Favorites: Camera, Yarn, and Best Friends

Happy Friday Everyone!! What a perfect end to a strange week. . . (aren't they always strange. . . hahaha) So, I would like to enlist my followers in helping me choose. I am looking for a point-n-shoot camera for our trip. I know I know, the SLR's are the way to go. But honestly, I want something I can stick in my pocket and not get a neck cramp or worry about damaging a larger camera. Small is good :) I'm looking at two of the following, but if you lovely readers have other suggestions let me know.

I am very partial to Canon (thanks Sara!) So the Canon A3300is is great! 16 megapixel and image stabilization is great! However there is a lag-time of about 4 seconds between photos. However, I don't plan on shooting a race with this camera, it might bug me in the future. But I LOVE CANON!! Oh another thing, suggestions: need to be between $100-$200 dollars. ;)

The second is something I never thought I would venture to. Not to say I don't like Sony, just never thought I'd like their cameras. I'm old school with my brands I suppose. HOWEVER!!! this little guy is rather interesting. It shoots faster than the Canon, also has a special feature for low-light photos. Yeah! Oh N. Michigan winters SUCK! as far as light goes. Boom! if I wanna take a photo after work in the living room, I have to turn every light on and even then, I have trouble. So this little fella might be nice for that. 10 megapix, which I was really hoping for between 14-16, but this has a 10 optic zoom! and a panorama feature. Pretty cool.

Okay, away from tech, to YARN!! I have been bitten by the bug again. This lovely above is gonna be a sock with lovely Malabrigo sock yarn. I love it, and I've had it since last February, so now it's being used.

Back at the end of May, the Plucky Knitter was here in N. Michigan. Ohhh I love her yarn!!! I picked up two of the Primo! So soft!

I wanted a special pattern, so this will be a hat!! I know it's off the needles, but needs finishing touches! It'll have BUTTONS!! Yeah! How cool!!

And FINALLY!!

My besty Ace-Gang member is coming home this today, or tonight rather, for her Wedding next week. I cannot wait to see her tomorrow. I'm putting on her Bach. Party :) It'll be soo much fun!!

The pattern used Classic Elite Yarn Inca Alpaca. Though, I would have dearly have loved to use this amazing yarn, but wallet with-holding, I couldn't. So, I went to knitpicks to get some similar yarn for my project. But it's a secret as to what colors I choose. :)

Yeah, it's Tuesday already!! That means Monday is over with and tomorrow is the middle of the week. So, I'll be linking up with Sarah!

This week is things around my house, and well I love my new peacock blue fiestaware pitcher. It's filled with homemade lemonade. YUM!!

I got a wonderful pizza stone for my bridal shower from Tom's Aunt Deb. I LOVE IT!! I made homemade pizza my own crust and all. Soooo good, and it cooks the pizza so evenly, it's awesome!

Finally, Sunflowers! One of my favorite flowers! I love the bright yellow petals with the dark brown center! :)

Well August is here, insane! Because that means we have less than two months till out wedding. Let the super planning begin. Actually, I am not all that worried. Everything is on schedule.

What I Wore Wednesday: Wine Tasting

For my birthday last week Tom took me wine tasting. Where we live in Northern Michigan is wine region. These aren't your California grapes folks!! We went to some really awesome vineyards, tasted a ton of great wines. L. Mawby was my fav though. (featured below). It was also really really hot last week, which in Michigan it is not a DRY heat it is HUMID!!! But this porch felt great sitting and sipping wine. What a great birthday treat :)

Wedding Stuff Madness

So, yesterday was a crazy busy day. I think we hit almost every single store that would contain TIES in the area. What was this all for you ask? For Tom's outfit. We finally got his suit picked out, he just has to get a fitting done so they can take it in.

We really liked the yellow and grey combo. WE also, after searching forever in stores did not find a yellow tie, well okay, we did not find a yellow tie that either of us liked. But we have found a few online :)

PLUS, after much searching and browsing online, I gave up cardigan shopping, and thought why not try some local stores. Actually I found one, not at a local store, but at talbots. I'm not a usual customer there, but there was a cardigan waiting for me. I little brighter, but heck, I can ALWAYS return it, but at least now I have one. CHECK!!! off the list! YAHOO!!! With a little over three months togo, I think we are in pretty good shape :)

Art Show Success!!!

So yesterday, sew ewe-nique designs was in it's first art show, and WOW!!! It was a total success!! I am soo excited! First: Thank you to everyone who came and supported me! This business wouldn't be possible without your help!

I am excited to say that, yesterday's show really made me believe that this will be a booming business!!

I ran out of business cards!!! Plus, watch for up and coming new items to be added to my etsy store!!!

Weekends Over Time to Work

WOW, Monday went by quickly. I had Monday Brain all morning! It took two cups of strong coffee this morning to function. (Monday Brain is when you do something and swear it was done, but check and it is either not done, or it is done and you will, and I MEAN will be up in 5 minutes again thinking "did I do that??") yeah :)

BUT!! the exciting thing! My new business cards came!!! I paid extra to get them here ASAP because I have been busy (new job) and I wasn't sure what to get. But I found these amazing bird (wow, yeah. . . shocker I know) cards which are ADORABLE!!! And they go great with my metal bird-card holder.

Moo is an awesome creative site! I think the finished product is amazing! Gotta love them!!!

I have been busy, so therefore I would like to share what I have been INSANELY working on for the past two months. Yes, that is right, this Sunday, I will be in my first ever art show. Super excited! I have a ton done! But I still have a lot to do. I have four more clutch bags to finish, hopefully 3 more coffee sleeves, earrings are done. I'm working on more necklaces, and ruffle shirts.

Okay, so it will be Nation Cherry Festival here in N. Michigan, hence the cherry fabrics. I hope that this stuff will sell big time! I am making it especially for this occasion, (so it better!!)

I'll have like 17 some clutches :)

Yeah, we've made it to Friday! End of the week always feels good :) I cannot wait for the weekend, which will hopefully be more relaxing than last weekend. I have a lot to do this weekend to prepare for my show next Sunday, but it will be just fine, no worries here!

Busy Week and Two to Go

I have been away, I know sorry everyone! But I have a great excuse. I started my new job on Wednesday and it's going well. I am trying to learn as much as I can since this is something very new to me. Well, I've been an office assistant for many years, but this a completely new field to me. :)

Also, yesterday in the mail, I got my notice for my art show. I know where my booth will be now and what time I have to be there at. I am SUPER!!! excited! I want to take some pictures of all of the items that I have. I have been working hard to get a lot done now before the event. I think I am about 75% complete. So with TWO weeks left to prepare I am feeling a bit of the "crunch" time coming. But I am know I will be set.

However, I am not sure I am ready for July yet? WOW where did 2011 go?? I am really glad we have gotten a lot done for the wedding this month, because July is gonna be crazy! Seems like something every weekend. But it's gonna be a blast!

Well, I am off!

Tom and I went hiking yesterday! So much fun, we went to a place just west of us and found a great trail all wooded and then we got to a look-out point over Lake Michigan. I love living in this state! However, I am a goof and forgot my camera. But we just decided we'll have to do it again!
We then ventured to the Cherry Republic store. If you come to my "hood" this store is a must!! We got some Cherry BBQ Sauce (really good) and some Cherry Hard Cider and a Cherry Ginger Ale. Oh man! We ate well last night!

It has been very hot and humid here in N. Michigan. However tomorrow it's suppose to cool right down to 63 or something! WOW go from 90 to 60s, too drastic I think. BUT! I am not complaining. We have had it too cold for too long! So yeah for warmth! (Plus I am in AC all day)

The window in our living room is open and the sun is pouring in what absorbs this the most? A black backed cat. Hamlet loves this! Yes, he's chubby and his feet are hanging off the end. So cute!

So, this was Nanaki as I woke up this morning. AKA LONG CAT! Why must he always sleep at the foot of my side of the bed. Never Toms always mine. . . oh well, he's cute and VERY friendly.

Busy Busy. . . but here's some cakes!

Okay, so I know I haven't posted since Wednesday, I was very bad. . . but when I wanted to post earlier today, our internet was once again out. However our provider has now fixed said problem, and we are up and rolling again.

Tomorrow is my friend Erin's bridal shower and so I went shopping today to get her a gift. . . can't say because sometime she reads my blog :)

But I have been looking at cakes now for our wedding. I have an idea of what I want to do, but pictures always help. Five smaller cakes with five different flavor because honestly, I don't have "one" flavor of cake that I like more than others, I like a lot of different ones!

I just like the concept of each cake, all different.

So, I have to say thank you to everyone for "outfit" advice. I have been to the stores and I know have an idea. I will slowly build my wardrobe, because I am on shoe-string budget here. I have however, been working like mad on new product and ideas for my store. SPRING15 for 15% is still good for a few more weeks! get it while you can!

What I Will Be Wearing Wednesday

So yesterday, I got some really exciting news. I got a new job! I am very excited, however, I must up-grade my wardrobe. Working at my current office job has been very very casual, jeans and a t-shirt. I try to keep it nice, but it's defiantly not business casual. So suggestions are welcome! I have an idea of what to wear and what NOT to wear. No jeans, no backless shirts or dresses-unless covered up, if I wear sleeveless I must wear something over. Skirts cannot be too short.
So, getting inspiration from Summer Finn from 500 Days of Summer (I love that movie!!) I gotta get a new white blouse, mine shrunk when a certain fiance of mine stuck it in the dryer. . . And grey slacks!

I love this blue look! I should rock more blue with my dark hair now!

Okay soo the next five looks are from Banana Republic. I unfortunately cannot afford the BR look, but I can certainly find matches for less. :)

This dress is iffy, I know I would wear something over-top, but not sure, I just love the look though!

So this weekend was beautiful weather! I really should have snapped a pic of my outfit on Sunday, I LOVED it. Grey oldnavy skirt, white v-neck top from target, and teal flats from target. SOO cute! grrr. . . I must get better with the camera. I'm just not used to taking pics of myself.

BUT! it has once again turned cold here in N. Michigan. Ho-Hum. At least I have my red Tom's with me! (Wanted to wear Ssekos, but it's gonna rain today. . . )

Tonight I am heading downtown with my Mum to see Jane Eyre, and get some yummy food. But we are also checking out my wedding band, I want to show her. We shall be going tomorrow (Tom and I) to purchase them! I love it sooo much. I had chosen my band before, but went back and for some reason, it just wasn't that great anymore. Tom picked a great one for himself. Titanium, with a brushed look to it. He doesn't care for shinny and bright, which I agree, there not 'him'. So they have to send away for his. Bummer, but mine they have in-store. They were worried because the diamonds go 3/4 the way around and to size it down to my size would be hard, but they can do it. Honestly, I love this place! They are TONS better than say jewelry stores in a mall! From personal experience the places in the mall made both Tom and I feel like we were 1. not spending enough, 2. being silly for just looking, 3. just being snotty towards us when we asked for a specific style. I'm sure it's not the same for everyone, this is just what happened to us.

Can you tell I'm excited! Oh it's very pretty, a bit more than what my first one cost, but my sweet sweet man was like "get the one you want" He's such a sweet guy :)

News Tom's to Take Over the World!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!

We had some great weather this weekend! I am missing it already since right now it is about 49 degree's outside and it is almost 3pm. Yeah, it was like 86 on Sunday! All four season in one week! That's Michigan for you!

BUT! I have added a little addition to my shoe's

Yes, the long talked about red Toms. I know, I'm slow at time to get on the ball, had to save up though :)

Plus this weekend, we got some flowers for the dinning room table. Pretty right?

I give Tom the credit for the color.

I wanted to take a moment to thank each and everyone who has commented/following my blog and to the wonderful ladies who have given me a chance to feature them. This has been a great week! Let's keep going! YEAH!!

Next up, we have Dani Draper from Veggies Have A Heart. Let's learn a little bit more about her!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I like cats. I’m vegan. I graduated with a degree I didn’t want. I am from and currently live in Spartanburg, SC but my husband and I are saving up to move to Portland, OR by the end of the year. I love to doodle, read, write, and knit. My favorite color is green, and although I can’t pick one favorite food, it probably involves potatoes.

What got you started with your craft: I have always had an interest in the fiber arts. My mom is an avid cross-stitcher. She is amazing, and always won first place at the local fair for her work. She got the skill from my grandmother, who also grew up doing it. I tried my hand at cross-stitch when I was younger, but it never stuck. A few years ago, I met some folks who knitted, something I never thought I’d do myself. I bought a crappy knitting book and taught myself how to do it that same week, and the rest is history.

What inspires you: Before I answer, I want to preface this by saying I struggle for inspiration sometimes. I seem to go through phases where I’m obsessed with knitting for a while, and then I hate it for a few months. Most of my inspiration comes from Ravelry; sometimes I’ll just sit and look at all the recently added patterns and that gives me the drive to pull out some yarn and start something new. I get frustrated pretty easily when I can’t get something right, or when I’m trying to finish the second sock of a pair and I’m tired of the pattern, but I’m working on it!
Is your craft full-time or part-time: Part time. I have a full time job, and mostly started an Etsy store to keep me inspired to keep knitting, and to raise money to help us move to Portland. I am finding it’s harder and harder to find time to knit, so it’s been a bit of a struggle getting finished knitted items in my shop; that’s why you see mostly jewelry in there so that I don’t only have a few items listed all the time!

What do you love most about your crafts? I love the fact that I’m creating something. Knitting is creating something that someone can use, something beautiful that might be passed down and remembered for years. I know I can’t quite knit sweaters yet, but you can knit sweaters, dresses, pants, skirts, tableclothes, blankets, curtains…everything you can think of. It just amazes me that my hands are capable of that. You can recycle with knitting; I’ve read tons about knitting dish scrubbies and bags out of plastic grocery bags, or cutting up old t-shirts to make t-shirt yarn to knit scarves, bags, or new shirts. The new things I learn never cease to amaze me.

When did you start crafting: About 3 years ago. I’ve been doing it on and off ever since.

If you’re not crafting what else are you doing? Reading, watching TV (I’m obsessed with crime shows), or cooking!

Why do you craft: I craft because I like doing it, mostly. It’s relaxing, and gives me such a sense of accomplishment to be creating something. If someone wants to buy it, that’s just a bonus. ;)

Coffee or tea: I love them both, but have mostly cut coffee out of my diet, and drink tea daily. I found coffee made me crash too hard in the afternoons, so Earl Gray keeps me sane. If I have coffee, though, I drink it black!

Favorite color and why: Green. Green represents a lot to me, especially since going vegetarian. It represents all the greens I eat, the green Earth, growth and new life, and it means GO. It’s just a happy color!

My name is Annie, and I’m a writer/designer living in Southeast Michigan. I love
knitting, animals, and anything nerdy.

2. What got you started with your craft
I’ve been crafting since I can remember. It’s always been my favorite thing to do. I
opened my Etsy shop over a year ago, because I simply had too much stuff that I had
made and I needed to get rid of it (haha). As far as designing blogs, I’ve been doing that
officially for a couple of months. I got into it because I was always redesigning my own
blog and really enjoyed it. Then I had a few blog friends ask me for help and the rest is
history!

3. What inspires you
Oh boy – everything! I don’t think there’s just one answer to this question. If you just
keep your eyes open, inspiration finds you everywhere.

4. Is your craft full-time or part-time
Full-time, sort of. My full time job is a mixture of freelance projects, and though some
are less creative than others, they all deal with writing/design/craft.

5. What do you love most about your crafts?
It’s something that’s totally mine. When you create something from scratch, it’s just
amazing. I also love that I’ve been able to mold it into a business that’s now a pretty
significant part of my job.

6. When did you start crafting
In the womb, maybe? I really don’t remember.

7. If you’re not crafting what else are you doing?
Writing, probably. I don’t do much besides work these days, because I really love what I
do. I also watch a lot of movies (while working, usually).

8. Why do you craft
Because I love it. It’s so much fun.

9. Coffee or tea
Can I have both?? I guess if I had to choose one, coffee. But I really do love tea.

10. Favorite color and why
Yellow, definitely. It’s so bright and happy.
